How are the Seleucids and Macedonians now? Do they start with much smaller territories and take longer to grow into their dominating ways? How are battles? As in are they a difficult grind now, or still RTW's rout-fest? They spent a lot of time mucking around with unit stats in RTR to balance things better (so you can't use light cavalry to charge heavy troops and so on). Have there been any unit strategy modifications (like changing the AI's standard layouts)? There were some on RTR that made them a bit harder to fight. The only mildly alarming thing I read was that their recommended campaign setting was Very Hard on VH the AI factions all get a bonus 10,000 denarii a turn, which is what makes them so aggressive. Naval combat was poorly done in RTW and the less of it the better, to be honest.Д®DIT2: However it looks pretty script-heavy how much slower to play is it than RTR because of the extra processing requirements? Is it very buggy? I'm also reading EB's FAQ right now to get some more info.Д®DIT: I've just hit something that already sounds better: fewer warships. What does EB do for the Roman player (because I only really play Rome, except on the rare occasions I play the Iberians) that RTR doesn't? Is EB any better in that respect? While it's a fun little mini-game I like to play in trying to preserve the balance of power, it does get a little frustrating that Macedonia in RTR steamrollers everyone and turns everything east of Italy into a greater Macedonia.Дoes EB do anything to slow the game down? As in if you don't rush to grab as many provinces as you can as fast as possible, are you going to be dealing with AI factions spamming you with lots of stacks of troops? Which to be honest was in 2005 now that I think about it.Д«y biggest beef with RTR of late is that the small factions (Iberia, Numidia, Pontus, Thrace, mostly) tend to get swallowed up really quickly. Sounds like EB has moved on a lot since I last looked. Like I said, it's just better in every respect. Oh yes and the battles look better, play better, and have more historical units and are just more interesting. Instead he ended up being an elitest snob and bookworm who everyone hated! If I hadn't sent him to school or at least out of the city he would have been 'corrupted' by his father (although he already had mostly the same base stats). His parties were legendary as was his mistresses. The father was smart and rather disloyal, racking up traits like seditious and welcoming to foreigners. I needed to move one son right away to the capital, since his father was governor of a larger northern town.

When I was playing the Bactrians I sank lots of my money into building a great academy of learning, my plan was to train up the younger sons for 4 years. But each stat is rated 1-6 so you can never know exactly how good or bad they are. Each person has 6 statistics, and get a rough idea how smart or loyal they are etc.

For a start the way they handle family trees is so complex and detailed it's almost like a mini rpg. I can't really describe how cool EB can be.
